As allowed by the Clery Act, pastoral and professional counselors who receive confidential reports are not required to report these crimes to the Department of Public Safety for inclusion into the annual disclosure of crime statistics or for the purpose of a timely warning. On occasion, a victim wishes to report a crime but does not want to give his orher name and/or pursue action through the criminal justice or University judicial systems. Hate Crimes and Acts of Intolerance Campus Assault Resources and Education - C.A.R.E. When appropriate, the Department of Public Safety will investigate the matter further or will forward the report to the San Diego Police Department for follow-up. When a crime, suspicious activity, or a safety-related incident is reported, the Department of Public Safety will dispatch an officer to the appropriate location to conduct a preliminary investigation. Stay on the telephone until the dispatcher tells you it is okay to hang up.
